Who decided that cake shouldn’t be eaten for breakfast? It feels like an unspoken rule that begs to be broken and technically IS broken in so many ways! Coffeecake sanctimoniously flaunting its careful crumb topping instead of frosting, cinnamon rolls unabashedly slathered in the sweet stuff, and pancakes piled high with sugary syrup avalanching off the edges have all somehow worked their way onto the NORMAL BREAKFAST MENU as acceptable items while a slice of chocolate layer cake feels like a forbidden luxury. WHY?! The body doesn’t know the difference between the carbs of a pancake and the carbs of a cupcake! Personally, I feel like layer cake (if you are going to eat it anyway and you know you are) SHOULD be eaten for breakfast instead of before bed. This way, you have plenty of hours for your blood sugar levels to make their return trip back down from the summit of Sugar Mountain.
Some unspoken rules are best broken! Choose the bigger life by packing china for a picnic, dressing up even if you’re staying home, daily burning the special occasion candles, and of course – EATING CAKE FOR BREAKFAST.
written for my writing group’s prompt - Write about an unspoken rule. (Take this any direction you please!)
I just like the unexpected...but, I'd rather sushi than cake
